2010 STAFFORD BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS – Sponsored by the Friends of William Stafford

Each year this month long celebration of the life and work of William Stafford takes center stage all over the world. From its meager beginnings in a few local libraries, this event has continued to swell with poets and poetry lovers across the generations. 2010 will mark our 10th year of these celebrations.

It is not unusual to see pre-teens alongside octogenarians in these gatherings. From middle schools to universities, these literary events have become a cherished ritual around the globe. Some are even held in more than one language.

This year there are 56 Wiliam Stafford Celebration events currently scheduled for the month of January. Often, there are impromptu gatherings that take place as well, so we encourage you to check with your local news sources for events in your area. As we learn of new events we will post them to the Events page of this website.
